Latte Art is a beautiful way for us to show our customers that theres more to a latte then just coffee and milk. It takes skill, compassion, and creativity.
The design that appears on top of your latte is achieved by suspended micro bubbles that are formed in the milk when the milk is steamed properly. to create proper foam in the milk we first stretch the milk by forcing steam into the surface, then we roll the air into the rest of the milk to make it frothy and creamy. But the milk is not the only component of great latte art, the other is the espresso, which is another method of brewing coffee. To get the right contrast from the milk the crema in the espresso must be perfectly extracted by a skilled barista.
Now that we understand the ingredients to make latte art how is it done? With a steady hand a little knowledge its just as easy as drawing. First we tilt the cup with the espresso in it, so that we can pour the milk down the side of the cup to push it underneath the espresso. Then when the cup is about half way full we straighten the cup and bring the milk to the center, pour a little heavier, and with a few wiggles of the wrist.... tah dah! a beautiful rosetta!
